Angel blades are the standard-issue weapons of Heaven's soldiers. They are short, silvery, dagger-like blades that appear to be made of a celestial material not found on Earth. Every angel carries one, and they became widely available after the fall of the angels in Season 9, when thousands of angels were cast out of Heaven and their blades entered circulation among hunters and other parties.
Usage
An angel blade kills an angel on contact with a lethal strike, producing a characteristic flash of white light and burning wing-shadow marks on nearby surfaces. The blade is also effective against demons (killing both demon and host), reapers, hellhounds, and various other supernatural creatures. It is one of the most versatile killing weapons in the show's mythology.
Angel blades can be wielded by anyone — human, angel, demon, or monster. They do not require any special ability or angelic nature to use. This makes them extremely valuable to hunters, particularly after the angel fall made them more available.
Limitations
Standard angel blades cannot kill archangels — only an archangel blade (wielded by an archangel) can accomplish that. The blade requires physical penetration of the target, so any defense that keeps the wielder at range (telekinesis, force fields) can prevent its use. Against some powerful beings (Leviathans, God, the Darkness), angel blades have no effect.
