Effective Against
AngelThe angel banishing sigil is a specific symbol that, when drawn in human blood and activated by pressing a hand to it, creates a blast of white light that teleports all angels in the immediate vicinity to a distant, random location. It does not kill or permanently harm the angels — it simply removes them from the area, buying time.
Usage
The sigil must be drawn in fresh human blood on any flat surface — walls are the most common canvas. The symbol is specific and must be drawn accurately. When activated by a blood-smeared hand pressing its center, it produces an immediate effect: all angels within range (roughly a room-sized area) are blasted away, vanishing in a flash of light and reappearing far away — potentially on another continent.
Dean and Sam used the banishing sigil regularly from Season 4 onward. It became a standard part of their anti-angel toolkit, often drawn on walls preemptively when angel encounters were expected. Castiel was banished by this sigil numerous times, which became something of a running theme.
Limitations
The sigil banishes all angels in range, including allies. It cannot be targeted at a specific angel. It requires preparation time (drawing the sigil) and a source of fresh blood. The banished angel is not harmed and can return to the location afterward — it only delays, not resolves. Archangels may be able to resist or recover more quickly from banishment. The sigil has no effect on any creature other than angels.
